Words : Three Years Before Retirement

Jan 18th, 2009

There he went
Three years before retirement

Dying of a broken heart

There he went
Three years before retirement

Too much pain to bear

There he went
Three years before retirement

No chance to open that part

There he went
Three years before retirement

Without his love to share

There he went
Three years before retirement

Not a soul to even know

There he went
Three years before retirement

Nary a loved one to hold

There he went
Three years before retirement

How his pain did grow

There he went
Three years before retirement

Before he even got old

There he went
Three years before retirement

A family he never knew

There he went
Three years before retirement

Rest he shall never have

There he went
Three years before retirement

His life, away he threw

There he went
Three years before retirement

God, how I miss my Dad!

Katherine A. Marion

P.S. Just before this poem erupted; interesting how I am laying on my bed, eating an apple, looking into a sunlit sky ... and it hits me! The reason I express myself the way I do, is because it was rare in my childhood when someone else did. Oh, yes, other emotions of which we all know the sordid sort. Yet, rare and complete honesty?

P.P.S. Actually, I believe that the way I risk everything ... to express myself, is because my Dad never really did. I am sure there are others in my family and yours. What hurts is that my Father will never be given the opportunity, again. Which is why I am helping.

P.P.P.S. I huge shudder of a sob came forth right after I read the words found within the fabric of this poem that practically dropped out of my open heart. Blessed am I to receive such beauty!
